No Broadland station has a direct London train. Brundall to Liverpool Street is 2h18 via Norwich, from £32 advance, and the last train home leaves 20:30.
Start with the thing nobody tells you when you move here. Broadland has nine railway stations and not one of them has a direct train to London. The main line south out of Norwich does not stop again until Diss, which is South Norfolk, so every London journey from a Broadland village is two trains with a change at Norwich.
That is not as bad as it sounds. The connections are tight, the branch legs are short, and Brundall to London Liverpool Street takes 2 hours 18 minutes door of station to door of station. But it does change how you plan, how much you pay and, most of all, how late you can stay out.
The journey, honestly
The fastest Norwich to London Liverpool Street run is 1 hour 39 minutes, on Greater Anglia. Most departures take 1 hour 47 to 1 hour 49. The main line is frequent enough that a missed connection costs you half an hour rather than an evening.

Two things fall out of that table.
The branch leg is nearly free. Wroxham to London costs £1.90 more off-peak than Norwich to London does, and £3.70 more on an Anytime single. You are paying for the main line, not for the ten or fifteen miles that get you to it.
The Off-Peak Return is the ticket to know. At £74.10 it is barely more than a single, and £15 less than an Anytime single. If your day allows a mid-morning departure, the difference between leaving at 07:07 and leaving at 09:34 from Brundall is roughly £15 each way.
Advance singles start at £32.00 from every Broadland station, which is the same floor as Norwich itself, but they are fixed to one train and sell up through £37, £42, £48, £55 and £72 as the cheap ones go. Adding the Tube pushes a day trip up: an Off-Peak Day Travelcard from Brundall is £83.40, and the Anytime version is £174.30.
The last train home, which is earlier than you think
This is the single most useful thing on this page, and it catches people out.
The last connecting train from London Liverpool Street to a Broadland village is the 20:30. It reaches Norwich at 22:18, and from there:
- Brundall at 22:59
- Salhouse at 22:57
- Hoveton & Wroxham at 23:01
- Acle at 23:18
Miss it and there is one more main-line train, the 23:30 from Liverpool Street, but it arrives at Norwich at 01:33 and the first branch train onward does not run until 05:12. That is a four-hour wait on a station concourse or a taxi fare from Norwich.
What it means for you: a London theatre trip from Broadland is a matinee or an early dinner, not a late show. If you are booking evening tickets, price the taxi from Norwich into the cost of the evening before you decide, or plan to stay.
Which line you are on
Broadland’s stations sit on two branches out of Norwich, neither of which goes near London.
The Wherry Lines, Norwich to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, cover the southern and eastern half of the district: Brundall Gardens, Brundall, Lingwood and Acle on the Yarmouth route, and Buckenham, Cantley and Reedham on the Reedham junction. These are the villages along the Yare.
The Bittern Line, Norwich to Cromer and Sheringham, covers the north: Salhouse and Hoveton & Wroxham. The Wroxham station is actually across the bridge on the Hoveton bank, which is why it carries both names.
Everywhere else in Broadland has no station at all. Sprowston, Thorpe St Andrew, Hellesdon, Old Catton, Taverham, Drayton, Aylsham and Reepham are all stationless, and between them they hold most of the district’s population. Aylsham does have a railway, the Bure Valley Railway, but it is a 15-inch gauge heritage line to Wroxham and it is a day out rather than a commute.
Season tickets and the fares freeze
The number that matters for a regular commuter is the season ticket, and it is worth pricing your exact station rather than trusting a comparison site. What is firm is the policy: regulated fares in England are frozen until March 2027, the first freeze in around 30 years, and the freeze covers standard class season tickets, Anytime tickets and Off-Peak tickets (National Rail). First class, Standard Premium and Transport for London fares are outside it.
So the walk-up prices in the table above should hold through the rest of this year and into next, rather than jumping in March as they usually would.
