Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. Last year Thorpe St Andrew shut Yarmouth Road from 10am to 1.15pm; Hellesdon meets at St Mary's at 10.50am.

Remembrance Sunday 2026 is Sunday 8 November, and Armistice Day falls three days later on Wednesday 11 November. The two minutes’ silence is at 11am on both days.

As of 4 October 2026, no Broadland town or parish has published its 2026 timings. That is normal: these notices usually go up in late October. This page sets out what each place did last time it published, from the organisers’ and the bus operator’s own notices, and will be updated as the 2026 details appear.

Is it on this year?

Remembrance Sunday itself is fixed, the second Sunday in November. Broadland has no single civic parade. Each town and village holds its own act of remembrance at its war memorial, usually run by the parish church, the town or parish council and the local branch of the Royal British Legion.

The Legion’s Norfolk county branch list names branches or sub-branches at Aylsham & District, Coltishall, Reepham & District, Acle and District, Brundall and District, Drayton & District, Hellesdon, Old Catton, Sprowston, Thorpe, and Spixworth and District. Where a branch exists, there is normally a parade or wreath-laying.

Thorpe St Andrew: Yarmouth Road closes

Thorpe’s is the Broadland act of remembrance with a published road closure. First Bus’s notice for Sunday 9 November 2025 said:

  • Yarmouth Road closed between Thunder Lane and Harvey Lane, 10am to 1.15pm
  • Buses diverted via Harvey Lane, Gordon Avenue, Thor Loke, the Ring Road and Thunder Lane, the same route on the way back

The Town Council did not post its own Remembrance notice in 2025, so the bus notice is the best published record of the timings. Expect a similar closure on 8 November 2026 unless a new notice says otherwise.

Hellesdon: St Mary’s Church, Low Road

Hellesdon Parish Council publishes the parish churches’ Remembrance poster. The most recent one, for 2024, set out two gatherings at the war memorial at St Mary’s Church, Low Road:

  • Remembrance Sunday, 10.50am: an act of remembrance, then a service inside St Mary’s
  • Armistice Day, 11 November, 10.50am: a second, shorter act of remembrance at the memorial

The 2022 poster used the same 10.50am start for both gatherings. For 2026 that pattern would mean 10.50am on Sunday 8 November and 10.50am on Wednesday 11 November, but treat those as expected times until the new poster is out.

Reepham and the Wensum Valley parishes

Writing in Reepham Life in October 2024, the Reepham and Wensum Valley Team Rector, Revd Helen Rengert, gave Remembrance Sunday services at 10.30am at the local war memorials in Weston Longville, Reepham and Sparham. A Reepham In Memory service was held on a Sunday afternoon in late October beforehand.

Reepham Town Council’s newsletter reported that the 2023 Armistice Day service on 11 November was held beside the door of St Mary’s Church, at the site chosen for a new community memorial.

Aylsham, Sprowston and the rest: not yet published

Aylsham’s war memorial stands in the churchyard of St Michael and All Angels. Visit Aylsham, the town council’s own listings site, had no Remembrance entry when we checked on 4 October 2026. Sprowston, Acle, Drayton, Brundall and Wroxham have nothing published yet either. If you organise one of these and have the 2026 times, send them to us and we will add them.

Buses, silence and free travel

First Bus’s 2025 Norfolk notice said its drivers would pull over at 11am to observe the two minutes’ silence where it was safe to do so, and offered free travel to the Armed Forces community on the day. The same notice listed the Royal British Legion parade on Castle Meadow in Norwich at 11.10am to 11.20am, with short delays to buses rather than diversions.

Parking and roads

Broadland District Council’s own car parks are free, including Burgh Road and The Buttsland in Aylsham. Our parking in Broadland page lists all eight. At Thorpe, with Yarmouth Road shut from 10am, arrive early and park on a side street away from the closure.

Check Broadland roadworks and travel in the week before. Remembrance closures are short and are often posted only a few days ahead.
